"Where is Home?" is a comic and illustration anthology I launched early this summer on Kickstarter. We successfully smashed through our goal of $4k, which is huge for a relatively unknown collection of artists who attempted something like this for the first time!
Well, we enjoyed the experience so much the first time that we’re going to attempt it again! Volume 2 of “Where is Home?” will launch next summer, should we garner enough interest and enthusiasm for the project a second time around. And we want a much larger volume this time around! We hit 60 pages for our first volume, but I want to hit 100. Maybe 120!! Who knows!
We had over 80 artists apply for volume 2, which completely floored me! So many passionate and talented artists poured in to make their mark, and it was an extremely difficult decision to narrow them down to the 30 I had originally planned for. So I pushed my comfort number to 38! And I’m pleased to introduce them to you now!

It’s going to be an absolutely FANTASTIC publication, and I’m super thrilled to be heading it!! I hope you’ll be there in May to support our kickstarter campaign to springboard this book into print!

I’m so excited to be a part of this! It’s going to be such an awesome project with an amazing group of artists so definitely keep an eye out!

Some sketches and final pencils for comics projects!

I shanghaied Rona for one of my comics we have to make using the text of one of Shakespeare’s sonnets. I brought her back a millennium or so and made her a proper medieval lady knight.
Also playing around with faces and how they change as people age.

going to upload some sketches periodically tonight - working on a lot of good stuff right now though! three comics in process (two one page, one two page), a finished editorial piece due wednesday, and some silkscreen stuff!

and I’ll hopefully have some time this weekend to spend on more dragon ranger concept art (if not, plant doodles!)

A teeny illustration (about 2.5x3.5) for my children’s books class, a re-imagining of the cover of Pierre by Maurice Sendak. It’s about a little boy who says he doesn’t care about anything and ends up being eaten by a lion, so you can imagine it was a favorite of mine.
(it was also made into a song by Carole King)

Hey, guys! Just finished my first week back at Pratt and I’m starting to get into some good stuff. I’m also working on a concept art side project based around a group of fantasy forest rangers who have to contend with a dangerous and invasive species: dragons.
She’s their specialist.

Hey, everyone! I’m back from my weeklong vacation in central PA - the book is done, I have new projects that I’m working on, some sketches to post, and I start classes on Monday. Phew.

YEAH it’s really awesome! I’ve always wanted to apply to things but never see submissions for them open? So that’s really cool!

Yeah omg this has always been my problem? So pretty much what I did is follow a lot of them and wait for volume 2 submissions to come around, or for them to promo for other submit things. And I’ve been seeing a lot more because I follow a lot more artists, too, I think.

But then the flipside of that is that the second time around is bound to be more competitive, so…haha, I guess we’ll see.

I’m sorry I know I’ve been inactive but I’ve been trying to throw some neat projects your way while I try to finish things up on my end (and I know for me with anthologies and zines and things like that I literally never end up hearing about them until they’re already going to print or kickstarter and it makes me sad)

anyway

We are looking for talented artists who are comfortable contributing either a short comic or spread illustrations. The best part is that I want the artists to work at their own pace for this thing. If I start everyone working on their contribution in the fall, there should be no issue why we can’t launch with fully completed artwork in the following summer. Please spread the word! Applications are being accepted til September 10th, 2014. :)

Hello everyone! The Ladies of Literature project is pleased to announce that we’re beginning work on Volume 2! We’re hoping to make this book even bigger and more beautiful than Volume 1. We’ve invited our Volume 1 veterans to come back to contribute, but we’re looking for even more fresh talent to fill the pages!
For those who don’t know, Ladies of Literature Volume 1 was an illustration anthology that celebrated our favorite female book characters and authors.
This time around, we’re still working with the same premise, but we’re placing a stronger emphasis on illustrations that tell stories. We want well-composed illustrations that showcase exactly why you fell in love with your character or author. Make us want to pick up their stories for ourselves—like the ultimate book recommendation.
The book is going to be Kickstarted to cover cost of printing and compensation for all contributing artists. All artists will get a copy of the book. Any remaining Kickstarter and book sale funds will be donated directly to in-classroom childhood literacy projects via DonorsChoose.org.
(That being said, obviously this is a project that may include copyrighted characters so if we run into legal trouble, we’ll have to shut the whole thing down.)
We’re aiming to have 75 artists in total so if you’re interested in participating, fill out this Google Form with your name and portfolio by AUGUST 31, 2014. We’ll notify our final choices by mid-September. Thank you! So excited to see all of your work!
